The Company
Kvadrat Soft Cells
The idea for Soft Cells was born in the late 90's, when Jesper Nielsen, an architect working at Foster+Partners
in London, was staring up
at textiles suspended from the ceiling
The textiles looked excellent, but the steel mechanism holding them didn't.
Then condensation started to affect the fabrics. However, the frames couldn't be taken down. Jesper began to design his own solution
The breakthrough came
with a project involving Kvadrat textiles for the
iconic "Gherkin" building. Jesper introduced his idea
for a flexible, easy-to-remove aluminium panel that kept
the fabric looking perfect, regardless of temperature and humidity
Kvadrat, committed to pushing back the boundaries of textile design, became involved, and patented Soft Cells went into production in 2006
